It's no secret that we like food, yeah?
When going on a road trip we like to make it a priority to stop at a famous food dive-- we like to hit up restaurants featured on either man vs food/ diners, drive ins and dives. On these two road trips we visited 3 restaurants all from Diners, Drive-In's and Dives.
First we went to Hillbilly Hot Dogs in Huntington, West Virginia.
It's basically a hotdog joint meets antique junkyard meets tourist trap...but we like hot dogs and we like diversions from driving, i'll call this place a win.
the "dining room" was actually old school busses with seats turned around to face each other
and nothing is more classy than Spam flower vases!
the dogs
the kids thought it was awesome that they could write on the bus/tables
we just went ahead and pinned all of our homes...
this boy cracked me up walking around with this hat on
Next stop was the Parkette Drive In in Lexington, KY
Mike got what he was supposed to get... the "Parkette Poor Boy Burger" and it was just okay. I on the other hand got a Patty Melt and it was pretty great--like best patty melt i've ever had.
the kids had corn dogs, but most importantly they had their first banana split--and i'm pretty sure they loved it ;)
Macky was just happy to be out of the car
The last place we stopped was The Tamale Place in Indianapolis. This place exceeded all of our expectations. We stopped here last minute basically because everyone had to potty and it was close to lunch time--but by far, this place was awesome. I do love good mexican food though!
my chicken verde tamale wrapped in banana leaves--oh man i would eat there every day if i lived around here. fresh salsa, fresh guac, fresh tamales, the best looking nachos i've ever seen.... go there if you have a chance. don't let the boring facade turn you away!
