a few random cuties

obviously i've been slack taking pictures lately, but here a a few cute ones i found on my phone.

Mike took the kids to Farrells Ice Cream Parlor one night while i ate dinner with a friend.  i'm not really sure if they ate dinner at all, or if they just ate this house-sized banana split...

Tagged

okay Kim, because i like you ;) and because i'm having a boring few days.
~The Rules~
1. You must post the rules.
2. Post eleven fun facts about yourself on the blog post.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you've tagged.
4. Tag eleven people and link them on your post.
5. Let them know you've been tagged!

ELEVEN FUN FACTS ABOUT ME
hmm...
1. I can shake my eyeballs as well as cross only one eye.  I can not however, roll my tongue or raise one eyebrow.
2. Well, speaking of-- Two is my favorite number.  I got married on April 22nd of my 22nd year and that was NOT a coincidence. and lets not forget i have twins.  and the fact that i graduated high school in 2002.  two is a pretty cool number :)
3. I played trombone for 7 years, although i tried to pick it up a year ago and seemed to have lost it.  I'd like to take music lessons of some kind again (cello, piano, banjo).  Maybe once i get off this island...maybe.
4.  Mandy Moore is one of my favorite actresses.  I think we'd be great friends.  anyone know her and want to hook us up?
5. One Tree Hill is my all time favorite tv show.  It's on its last season this year.  I'm excited and bummed all at the same time.  and yes, i own the seasons.
6. I was totally resistant to the Mac takeover--but as of this Christmas I am the proud owner of a Macbook and I love it.  I admit it.  I was wrong.
7. I hated tuna prior to being pregnant.  Now i love it.
8.  My nose itches a lot, and i do this nose rub thing that drives my mom crazy.  My kids do it too.  It's genetic...totally not my fault.
9. I like to alphabetize things, although i am not a very organized person.
10. I'm really bad at painting my nails.  If they are painted, someone else did it.
11.  I'm afraid of falling.  Not heights...i actually love being high.  But i HATE jumping off of anything and the feeling of falling is totally scary.

QUESTIONS FROM MY TAGGER, KIMSY.
1. What is your idea of a perfect day?  Walking around some foreign city with my sweet hubby that we've never been to before with no worry about the time.  Just exploring, having fun together and hopefully eating some tasty food!
2. Sweet or Salty? Salty.
3. What's a blog of website that you enjoy (besides facebook)? Pinterest. Duh. Although i'll also throw out this random blog cause the writer always makes me laugh Don't Put Chopsticks in Your Hair
4. Hot or Cold? Hot.
5. Books or movies? ooo...that's a hard one.  i love both.  A LOT.  I guess books though, because although i'd make it without a TV, not so sure i'd make it without books.
6. What was the last thing you bought? Clearance Hawaiian Christmas T-shirts from Target for next year.
7. When was the last time that you belly laughed? Although i seriously hope this isn't true, the last time i remember belly laughing, like until i cried, was at a joke Hillary told me last fall.  Oh no, maybe i need to get out.
8. Do you prefer a date night in or out? Out. I love going out.
9. If could do anything and you didn't have to worry about finances, what would it be? Take a Trip Around the World.  I look at those flights all the time with jealousy.
10. What was your best childhood memory? It's not one in particular, but i loved Christmas every year, more than anything--with all the family and its busyness.  Heck i still do.  haha.

Missing Fall

It's supposedly Fall. I can tell here because it is getting darker earlier. But that is where it ends.

We've been 6 years now without being around fall weather. The first 3 years i barely noticed--but these last 3 have been more difficult. Good News is...next year, we will be back in Carolina and i have LOTS of plans.

It will go something like this:

1. Wear long-sleeve shirts, and jeans and boots and scarves and whatever else is in style without sweating the whole time (which is what happens now because i REALLY want to wear the fall clothes, and they are sold in the stores with the nice, cool A/C that convinces me that I will be fine and then i go outside in my new cute fall outfit and think to myself..."self, what the heck were you thinking"????

2. Go to the State Fair. The State Fair here is a serious joke. Really. North Carolina state fair, oh how we miss you and all of your crazy fried foods, smelly livestock, turkey shoots, country concerts and fun rides. We WILL be there next year.

3. Cornhusing. Just the most awesome Meredith tradition EVER that I have been itching to go back and watch ever since I graduated 6 years ago. I want to sit on the hard brick steps in the freezing cold weather, wrapped in blankets and huddled up with my friends, watching silly skits and singing crazy made-up songs. Yeah. I know. Sounds so good you want to come to. ;)

4. Throwing the kids a ROCKING Birthday Party where our family can ACTUALLY attend. Yep, as Mike and I are trying to plan the kiddos 2nd Birthday, it kind of looses it excitement when you realize there isn't really anyone to invite to it. So go ahead and mark your calendars. NOV 30, 2012--it's.gonna.be.AWESOME!

5. Thanksgiving. Another event that is traditionally defined by the people you spend it with. I'm ready to spend it with family--although i'm thankful to have had wonderful people to celebrate with the past 6 years, it's time to do it at home and show the kiddos what Thanksgiving is really all about.

6. LEAVES. I know it's beautiful here almost everyday. But it's also the same here everyday. A trip to the mountains while the leaves are changing is already being planned in our heads. The oranges and red leaves against the bright blue sky is one of the most beautiful sights ever. and we miss it. I also can't wait to go outside in our backyard (because YES we WILL have one), rake leaves into a huge pile and jump and rolls and crawl all in them with the kids. That is going to be an awesome day.

7. Food. Fall food is yummy. and no matter how much i try, soups and stews and pumpkins and squash and baked apples and pies never taste as good when its 85 degrees outside. its a fact. although i did make a fabulous beef stew tonight from a new recipe-- but while eating it tonight we were already looking forward to next year when i can make it on a cool fall day. I'm convinced it will taste even better.

8. Halloween. When picking out costumes here the biggest concern is whether or not you will melt while wearing it. Halloween is meant for cool weather. and running through corn mazes while being chased with chainsaws is ridiculous if you are wearing shorts and flipflops. can i get an amen?

9. Pumpkins.rot.in.hot.weather. and bugs infest them quicker than water can boil on my stove. I've resorted to wooden pumpkins with lights in them. while the pumpkins are cute (thanks anne!) it's really quite sad to throw out your pumpkin and all of your hard work the morning after you carve it.

10. Fires. Whether it's in a fireplace or a campfire...the smell of a fire and the heat on your face is pretty awesome. and again, fire totally looses its luster in the hot weather--and it can be quite dangerous when you singe your arm/leg hairs while trying to cook a s'more.

one more year....one more year...one more year....

and again.

i'm having a blogging block and i haven't pulled my camera out in forever. i dunno why. but here's to the phone camera for reminding me and you both what this family has been up to.

Nora helping me put away the dishes. She's pretty darn good at it too and she LOVES to help. I REALLY LOVE THIS PHOTO. although it is of HRB in timeout. not that we really call it that, but essentially that's what's happening. we happened to have an air mattress in the living room that had not been put up yet, and so timeout was a little funnier than usual.
just the coolest "pretty" ever
torturing the kitty...i have no idea why but Oliver (the kitty) just keeps coming back for more, no matter how many timse HRB tries to ride him, or smash him to the ground or hit him with shoes or pull him by his tail around the house. As of last week Oliver even started coming upstairs the same time each night to do our nighttime routine together and get his goodnight kisses.

for easter they got one of gymboree's bubble blowers. they are the best bubbles on the planet and the kids love to go outside and play with themthe lone bubble

catching bubbles
HRB isn't the only one in timeout these days...Nora is very partial to a few of her toys and has a hard time sharing with her brother. sometimes its hard to be a mommy...just look at that face asking for her toy back!

after timeout make-up "sorry brother"

As happy as we are to be moving back to the East Coast and reveling in its glorious seasons...i'm gonna miss this. Never-Ending Beautiful Days. For now i'm just trying to sit on my front porch and enjoy the view while i still have it. I had a "Mommy Day" last Friday. It really should be called a Jessi Day though. Since being a mommy was exactly what i was NOT doing. My husband gave me the day off. I went out and layed on a deserted beach and read a book, went to Starbucks for yummy fall coffee, ate at my favorite sushi place, went shopping with a friend for a REALLY LONG TIME, and then brought dinner and a movie home to my husband kissed my already in bed kiddos night night and had a wonderful date night at home with my hubby. Pretty Perfect Day.

We went to a brithday party for a little girl at our church this past weekend. Nora fell in love with the kitchen. I intend to get her one just as soon as we move and have some room for one. She was so cute and new exactly what to do like she had been watching me cook or something for the past year or so ;)this is a group shot from the party minus a few...like the wandering girl int he background...and HRB! who was too busy riding the horsey to participate in saying "cheese".

riding horsey and reading a book...such a multi-tasker

and when you can't be at home with your real kitty....a look-a-like is pretty great too!

Shot Day

Last week we took the twins to get their last immunizations (other than seasonal shots) until they are of school age. Yay! They only had to get one, but that one shot brought lots and lots of tears! Good thing they are easily distracted with awesome stickers!

after shots, we had chinese lunch. Nora loves to use chopsticks like her mommy and daddy....and really, she's not half bad!

The Many Faces of My Husband

so this is a little old, but i just keep forgetting to post it--but over Mike's 30 day leave he let it all grow out. I'm a fan of the beard and always hate when its time to shave it off. I guess his facial hair is tied with his time at home, and maybe that's partly why i like it--who knows really.

anyway we always play a little bit in the midst of shaving it off... i tried to get him to go a day with just the mustach. he turned me down though. i don't know why. ;)

Click, Click--I DO--Click, Click

It was a busy weekend for me. One reason was that i was pretending to be a photographer for a wedding vow renewal ceremony. Mike's friend John and his wife Jenny were never able to have a wedding ceremony, so they invited their families to the island and had a ceremony at a cute chapel on base and a fun backyard reception afterwards. The kiddos stayed with our firends, the DeSilva family, during the ceremony so that Mike could attend the ceremony, but for the majority of the day, it was Daddy-Day. He took them to McDonald's for breakfast, hit up a few yard sales, dressed the kiddos and entertained them during the reception. He's a pretty awesome Daddy and they looked like they were having a great day!

Rand.om Instagr.ams of my fab.ulous f.am

it's been a busy week/weekend and i've been slacking with the blog. sorry mom. here's some pics to tie you over!

they just love to throw things over the gate and create booby traps for momma and daddy...this day's choice...our shoes! happy boy
nora loves her magnets. this cat was her first favorite and it shows it's love well.

reading. that face melts. my. heart.

cuddling with my sweet ones!

neither NGB nor HRB shows much interest in TV, but they were glued to Toy Story 3. she actually seemed a bit concerned about the whole thing...

kitty kisses

mommy had to hit the labor day sales at the outlets, so that meant the kiddos got to ride around in the sweet car stroller. (we can't take our own stroller in the outlets because they aisles are too crowded). I do think the $6 rental fee is totally worth it, because they were entertained the whole time and i got lots of great shopping done!

A Story For You

I feel like i never write anything lately. At least every time i get on the blog that's what i think about. Then i never really have anything to say either, but i always have pictures-- so that's what this blog is: A Glorified Photo Album. At least lately.

But i have a story for you today, so hold on to your panties. or if there is actually a boy out there reading--hold on to whatever it is you choose to wear.

SO...

I had to make a quick grocery story run on Sunday after church. Turns out this is very popular time to do grocery shopping. So needless to say it was busy. So busy in fact it took a while to find an unused buggy.

Grocery shopping went fine, no crazy stories of strange people to avoid or children gone wild which is always good. And then I had to check out. For those of you civilians who are not in the know, all commissaries have baggers that work independently from the store itself and are only paid by the tips they receive. This is something i found strange at first, but now i just expect it and even appreciate my food being carried out and packed in my car--i can just focus on my kids and not worry about my rolling away buggy and food melting in the sun all the while my kids are crying because they are hungry and hot and tired.

So the point, i know, i am getting there. I load up all my groceries on the conveyor belt, the bagger flashes me a BIG smile and asks if i want her to bag my groceries. Side Note: i have actually never had a bagger ask this before, most assume you want the service and you must tell them in advance if you don't. So anyway, i smile back and say "yes" and she get right to work bagging all my groceries and then rolls her cart to the exit to move out of the way and wait for me to finish my transaction.

All seems well, UNTIL...the system will not accept my debit card...TWICE. The cashier says they have been having problems all day and it may be their system and not my card, which i have to agree with since i have already used it 2 other times that day, so i run it as credit and it goes through. This is GOOD, since i can pay for my groceries and not have to leave my groceries on the side and find the ATM, but BAD because i couldn't use the cash back option to get cash to pay my bagger. and of course, i don't even have a 2 pennies in my change purse.

SO, i get outside and am feeling very bad at this point because i am not going to be able to tip her. I debate for a whole half a second and feel the need to tell her before we go any farther, just to be courteous so it doesn't seem like i'm stiffing her at the end. So right outside the sliding doors of the very busy commissary i tell her that the system was glitching and i was not able to get cash back. At this time the big smile from her face vanishes before my eyes she completely stops moving forward and she stares me down. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO NEXT. Then without a word spoken she nods her head towards an empty buggy in the parking lot and i realize that she is telling me that she will not be going farther and i need to go get that buggy and take my things out of her cart. (yes they have special carts different from the buggies we use to shop with).

At this point I am so embarrassed that as quickly as i can i go get the buggy and switch over my groceries all the while people are walking around us because we are right in front of the door. When i finish, she grunts really loud and speeds away from me as fast as possible.

Geez, i don't know what i expected when i stopped to tell her about the cash problem, but i guess i expected her to still take out my groceries, maybe be a little irritated, but still do it. Not because i can't do it own my own, but because she did already have all my things in her cart. Boy was I WRONG! It kind of makes me never want to use a bagger again. I hope her little temper tantrum was worth the $2 I would have tipped her had i gotten the cash back.

What ever happened to kindness and understanding? Oh yeah, i forgot--i don't live in The South anymore.

Quarter Machine Carosel

When did they get big enough to do this all by themselves?
