Also on Sunday we went to visit my Grandmother. She has been living in nursing homes for the past few years because of her dementia. My grandfather and mother did their best to take care of her for a few years, but as the disease worsened a live-in care facility was needed. My grandmother was always such a sweet lady. I have many good memories of her growing up--things that stick out the most are her willingness to play games with me whenever, calling me "sugarfoot", baking me cookies, and whistling while doing everything--even when listening to a different song on the radio!
Grandma isn't very responsive these days and is not able to effectively communicate through speech so we were not very sure what to expect when we took the babies to see her. But what happened was so sweet and something I will never forget. She actually reached out for them, held them and kissed them. I also thought it was so cute when she straightened out Nora's dress and sleeves on her dress before she held her--something i would expect Grandma to do--she always made sure that everything was neat and perfect.
It was so good to see her like this--i know that she would just love the twins and be so excited about having great-grandkids. To see her reaction today seemed a bit like her real self shining through.
